Rainbows

I know they say people are like seasons
And there are reasons
You have to let them go

Like leaves that change colors
Or creatures that shed skin
Caterpillars will turn into butterflies
And sometimes we just… outgrow

But I’ve been thinking about the forces that determine who stays and who goes
Was it circumstance or chance that led to our two separate roads?
Was it one time, one incident, or a build up of blows?
Was it my fault, your fault, who changed the plan, and who stuck to their mold?

Sometimes I can’t even remember the correct story or timeline
Only the people who used to be part of my lifeline
Chapters and moments that were made more beautiful by each soul
At the time, they cut deep, searing my throat
Now the colors finally emerge from the fold
Richer, deeper, more vibrant than they’ll ever know
